For over 50 years the company Parastone has dedicated itself to producing high-quality three dimensional tributes to timeless masterpieces and important artists like the Italian born artist Amadeo Modigliani and one of his Female Caryatid black and white sketches (1913-14) in this kiln-fired ceramic vase with a gloss finish. The Italian artist Amadeo Modigliani, although his artistic career was constantly interrupted and eventually shortened by progressive tuberculosis and alcoholism, his distinctive elongated and sculptural rendering of figures managed to receive acceptance and importance after his death. From the School of Paris after World War I, Modigliani belonged to a subgroup called Les Maudits (the cursed), which included Soutine from Lithuania, by whom Modigliani was heavily influenced, suzanne Valadon and her son Maurice Utrillo. The name Les Maudits was attributed not solely their conditions of poverty and alienation but also because of the disordered and chaotic lives they had. After being influenced by Constantin Brancusi, Modigliani began to work with sculpture and although he eventually returned to two-dimensional media he took influence from Archaic Ancient Greek Sculptures and African Tribal Masks, which can be evidenced in the elongated rendering of facial features. Female Caryatids consists in the stone carving of a female figure, on the supporting pillars of a Greek construction. After returning to drawing and painting Modigliani his sketches on caryatids and female figures continued to present the same blockiness in his sculptural figures.
